| I began working straight from college for Dorling Kindersley Ltd - a publisher of prestigious highly-illustrated books for the World market. Here I gained experience designing book layouts, as well as information content, at first using the old methods of cut-and-paste, but this was rapidly being replaced by the digital medium. I started as assistant designer, working my way up to Senior Art Editor status, taking on more responsibility and embracing the methods of the new technology. All projects involved working in a close team of editors, designers, authors, consultants and picture researchers, and my tasks included providing briefs for illustrators and photographers. At Senior Art Editor level this also saw me overseeing large teams of designers and editors on major projects such as Encyclopedias, and keeping them within budget and schedule constraints.
In 1994 I left to become freelance, and continued an ongoing partnership with DK together with other London-based publishers, working partly from home with own equipment, and their offices.
In 1997 I left the UK for Australia, settling in Cairns with my new wife; here I have been involved with local media and advertising agencies working on a wide range of products, and also acquiring a small but growing client base of my own in both printed and website mediums.
